THE IMPORTANCE OF TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE IN IGBO LAND

The Igbo traditional marriage is a popular event in Igbo land.

Young ladies and men who are getting married use it to bring their friends and well wishers to their homes

To showcase the families where they are coming from unlike before especially in the early 1980s,

when it was not as popular as it is today, because at that time,

In Igbo traditional marriage , young ladies would bring their suitors to their parents and kinsmen who drew up a list of things to be done, including the dowry to be paid,

other expenses to be incurred as well as going to the church to solemnize the marriage.

However, traditional marriage cannot be done today in Igbo land without traditional marriage being performed between the parents and relations of the bride and suitor.

Traditional Marriage in Igbo land is giving out a girl that has matured to marry, to the suitor when the suitor comes to the parents

The father and mother of the bride will hand the girl over to the suitor who is always accompanied by his parents and well wishers.

After doing the traditional things that are involved Traditional marriage cannot be neglected in Igbo land.

what people call traditional wedding today in Igbo land is actually the celebration by friends and well wishers of the girl and her husband

After traditional marriage rights that has been earlier done or part of it done before the celebration through eating, drinking and dancing that follows it.

If you do not do traditional marriage  in Igbo land, in the eyes of the kinsmen, men and women, the girl is not yet married, you must do it to put a seal to the marriage.

Where you don’t perform this traditional rights of payment of bride price and the rest of other things, the girl in the eyes of the kinsmen men cannot be given out for marriage.

The implication is that if she bears a child, that child belongs to her father’s home, if you did not pay that bride price, any child she bears does not belong to the husband, but when he pays, the child can now belong to the man.

Igbos charging much on their daughters, before they give them out for marriage.

has gone out of fashion, it is no more obtainable, people don’t  collect exorbitant dowry these days, in order to give out their daughters for marriage, this is because in Igbo land

we do not sell our daughters, so we collect just a token to show that they are coming out from a home, and with time those things are beginning to change,

people now take N100, N1, N5, as a symbol that the girl has been betrothed to the husband, you must pay something before the girl is handed over to the husband,

Traditional marriage is a very important event in Igbo land and if you have not done it,

It means you have not started marriage, it is that time the human beings and the spirits in the community where it is happening welcomes the two people involved in the marriage to be one.

White Wedding was brought by white men, but traditional marriage is where the agreement of being husband and wife is sealed.

In some white weddings, if the traditional marriage activities have not been conducted, some priests do not accept to conduct white wedding.

Some Priests will tell you, go and conduct the traditional marriage first, another thing is any man that grow to marry and have children.

It happens that the son or daughter is performing this ceremony, it gives joy, it is a thing of joy in the life of the man and woman who are giving out their daughter.

when this happens, and in few months or years, he gets a grandchild, he starts answering grandfather while the mother becomes grandmother.

EVERY HUMAN IS SPECIALLY MADE FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES - OBI CUBANA TELLS NIGERIAN YOUTHS

Dear Youth!
Today let's talk about "managing humans"

I mean, managing human beings is one of the

most difficult tasks in life, as all of us are uniquely made.

While some people's understanding may be flexible,

some are way too rigid that u don't even know where to start managing them!

But patience, wisdom, understanding, and love for all will stand you out if you choose to manage humans.

Every human is specially made for special purposes, and every human bring something on the table.

They may be 'off' most times, but they still add value if well managed.

As difficult as some people may be, accomodating them sometimes yield positive results as they tend to change with time!
Love is the greatest weapon here.

Like I always say, people are going through a lot!
But love heals.

As much as you can, be the positive vibe and plug  they need, and show love as much as you can....the world will definitely be a better place!
Have a blessed week

FANTASTIC ARCHITECTURAL ORESUND BRIDGE CONNECTING SWEDEN AND DENMARK

AMAZING INFRASTRUCTURE: SEE THE FANTASTIC ARCHITECTURAL Ă˜RESUND BRIDGE CONNECTING SWEDEN AND DENMARK

Did you know that the fantastic architectural Ă˜resund Bridge is 1.9 kilometers under water and 1.4 kilometers above water, combining both roadway and railway, and links Denmark and Sweden in the European continent?

The Ă–resund or Ă˜resund Bridge is a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Ă˜resund strait between Denmark and Sweden, the longest in Europe with both roadway and railway combined in a single structure, running nearly 8 kilometres (5 miles) from the Swedish coast to the artificial island Peberholm in the middle of the strait. The crossing is completed by the 4-kilometre (2.5 mi) Drogden Tunnel from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager.

Ideas for a fixed link across the Ă˜resund were advanced as early as the first decade of the 20th century. In 1910, proposals were put to the Swedish Parliament for a railway tunnel across the strait, which would have comprised two tunnelled sections linked by a surface road across the island of Saltholm.

The concept of a bridge over the Ă˜resund was first formally proposed in 1936 by a consortium of engineering firms who proposed a national motorway network for Denmark.

The idea was dropped during World War II, but picked up again thereafter and studied in significant detail in various Danish-Swedish government commissions through the 1950s and 1960s.

However, disagreement existed regarding the placement and exact form of the link, with some arguing for a link at the narrowest point of the sound at Helsingør–Helsingborg, further north of Copenhagen, and some arguing for a more direct link from Copenhagen to Malmö.

Additionally, some regional and local interests argued that other bridge and road projects, notably the then-unbuilt Great Belt Fixed Link, should take priority.

The governments of Denmark and Sweden eventually signed an agreement to build a fixed link in 1973.

It would have comprised a bridge between Malmö and Saltholm, with a tunnel linking Saltholm to Copenhagen, and would have been accompanied by a second rail tunnel across the Ă˜resund between Helsingør and Helsingborg.

However, that project was cancelled in 1978 due to the economic situation, and growing environmental concerns.

As the economic situation improved in the 1980s, interest continued and the governments signed a new agreement in 1991.

A joint venture of Hochtief, Skanska, Højgaard & Schultz and Monberg & Thorsen (the same of the previous Great Belt Fixed Link), began construction of the bridge in 1995 and completed it 14 August 1999.

Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden met midway across the bridge-tunnel on 14 August 1999 to celebrate its completion. The official dedication took place on 1 July 2000, with Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden as the hostess and host of the ceremony.

Because of the death of nine people, including three Danes and three Swedes, at the Roskilde Festival the evening before, the ceremony opened with a minute of silence.

The bridge-tunnel opened for public traffic later that day. On 12 June 2000, two weeks before the dedication, 79,871 runners competed in Broloppet, a half marathon from Amager, Denmark, to SkĂ¥ne, Sweden.

Despite two schedule setbacks – the discovery of 16 unexploded World War II bombs on the seafloor and an inadvertently skewed tunnel segment – the bridge-tunnel was finished three months ahead of schedule.

Although traffic between Denmark and Sweden increased by 61 percent in the first year after the bridge opened, traffic levels were not as high as expected, perhaps due to high tolls.

However, since 2005, traffic levels have increased rapidly.

This may be due to Danes buying homes in Sweden to take advantage of lower housing prices in Malmö and commuting to work in Denmark.

In 2012, to cross by car cost DKK 310, SEK 375 or €43, with discounts of up to 75% available to regular users.

In 2007, almost 25 million people travelled over the Ă˜resund Bridge: 15.2 million by car and bus and 9.6 million by train. By 2009, the figure had risen to 35.6 million by car, coach or train.

FLOOD DIVERSITY : "I WAS AFRAID TO DIE IN THE WATER," SAID LAWRENCE,

It was pitch black when the waters came, forcing mother Fortune Lawrence and her eight children to jump on a makeshift boat and flee their house.

For the past two weeks, they have been living in dire conditions near Ahoada, in Rivers state, in a school now crowded with more than a thousand people displaced by the country's worst floods in a decade.

"I was afraid to die in the water," said Lawrence, surrounded by other families. "Here, we have nothing. Not enough food, no diapers, no mosquito nets."

JUST LOOK AT OBI , HE ‘SUSPENDED’ HIS CAMPAIGN TO GO AND HELP FLOOD VICTIMS - RENO OMOKRI CRITICIZES

Just look at Obi. He ‘suspended’ his campaign to go and help flood victims, only to go there with a camera, and dressed in Labour Party’s logo.

As I said on my AriseTV interview yesterday, Atiku already gave money, but as a good Muslim, his charity was done QUIETLY! Atiku also QUIETLY gave money the last time it happened.

He believes human misery should never be used to campaign.

Scripture says “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others.”-Matthew 6:2.

MEET THE 8 REGIONS ON THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

THE EIGHT REGIONS ON THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

Did you know that the African continent has eight major physical regions, namely the Sahara, the Sahel, the Ethiopian Highlands, the savanna, the Swahili Coast, the rainforest, the African Great Lakes, and southern Africa?

Africa is the second largest continent in the world, and it is bounded by the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean. The continent is divided almost equally in half by the Equator (an imaginary line around the middle of a planet or other celestial body, or that is halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole, at 0 degrees latitude. An equator divides the planet into a Northern Hemisphere and a Southern Hemisphere).

Africa has eight major physical regions: the Sahara, the Sahel, the Ethiopian Highlands, the savanna, the Swahili Coast, the rainforest, the African Great Lakes, and southern Africa. Some of these regions cover large bands of the continent, such as the Sahara and Sahel, while others are isolated areas, such as the Ethiopian Highlands and the Great Lakes. Each of these regions has unique animal and plant communities.

SAHARA
The Sahara is the world's largest hot desert, covering 8.5 million square kilometers (3.3 million square miles), about the size of the South American country of Brazil. Defining Africa's northern bulge, the Sahara makes up 25 percent of the continent  The Sahara has a number of distinct physical features, including ergs, regs, hamadas, and oases... The Sahara's animal and plant communities have adapted to the region's extremely dry conditions... Saharan plants survive thanks to root systems that plunge as far as 24 meters (80 feet) underground. In parts of the Sahara, plants cannot take root at all...

SAHEL
The Sahel is a narrow band of semi-arid land that forms a transition zone between the Sahara to the north and the savannas to the south. It is made up of flat, barren plains that stretch roughly 5,400 kilometers (3,300 miles) across Africa, from Senegal to Sudan. The Sahel contains the fertile delta of the Niger, one of Africa's longest rivers. Unfortunately, it is rapidly becoming a desert as a result of drought, deforestation, and intensive agriculture (desertification).

  ETHIOPIAN HIGHLANDS
The Ethiopian Highlands began to rise 75 million years ago, as magma from Earth's mantle uplifted a broad dome of ancient rock. This dome was later split as Africa's continental crust pulled apart, creating the Great Rift Valley system. Today, this valley cuts through the Ethiopian Highlands from the southwest to the northeast. The Ethiopian Highlands are home to 80 percent of Africa's tallest mountains... Important plant species native to the Ethiopian Highlands include the Ethiopian rose, Africa's only native rose, and the ensete, a tall, thick, rubbery plant that is a close relative of the banana.

SAVANNA
Savannas, or grasslands, cover almost half of Africa, more than 13 million square kilometers (5 million square miles). These grasslands make up most of central Africa, beginning south of the Sahara and the Sahel and ending north of the continent's southern tip. Among Africa's many savanna regions, the Serengeti (or Serengeti Plains) is the most well-known, a vast, undulating plain that stretches 30,000 square kilometers (11,583 square miles) from Kenya's Maasai-Mara game reserve to Tanzania's Serengeti National Park.

SWAHILI COAST
The Swahili Coast stretches about 1,610 kilometers (1,000 miles) along the Indian Ocean from Somalia to Mozambique. The nearby coral reefs and barrier islands protect the coast from severe weather. There is not a lot of animal life on the sandy Swahili Coast. The golden-rumped elephant shrew, an insect-eating rodent with a long snout, is common. A small, primitive primate known as the bush baby inhabits vegetated areas of the Swahili Coast... These more vegetated areas are located on a narrow strip just inland from the coastal sands. Heavy cultivation has diminished the diversity of plant species in this interior area of the Swahili Coast. Mangrove forests are the most common vegetation.

RAINFOREST
Most of Africa's native rainforest has been destroyed by development, agriculture, and forestry. Today, 80 percent of Africa's rainforest is concentrated in Central Africa, along the Congo River Basin. Africa's rainforests have a rich variety of animal life; a six-kilometer (four-mile) patch could contain up to 400 bird species, 150 butterfly species, and 60 species of amphibians... The African rainforest's plant community is even more diverse, with an estimated 8,000 plant species documented. More than 1,100 of these species are endemic, or found nowhere else on Earth. Only 10 percent of the plants in Africa's rainforests have been identified.

AFRICAN GREAT LAKES
The Great Lakes are located in nine countries that surround the Great Rift Valley. As the African continent separated from the Arabian Peninsula, large, deep cracks formed in Earth's surface. These cracks later filled with water. This geologic process created some of the largest and deepest lakes in the world. There are seven major African Great Lakes: Lake Albert, Lake Edward, Lake Kivu, Lake Malawi, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Turkana, and Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, is the southern source of the Nile River, the longest river in the world. The African Great Lakes region has a diverse range of aquatic and terrestrial animal life... However, invasive species like the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and papyrus (Cyperus papyrus) have begun to take over entire shorelines, endangering animals and plants.

SOUTHERN AFRICA
The region of southern Africa is dominated by the Kaapvaal craton, a shelf of bedrock that is more than 2.6 billion years old. Rocky features of southern Africa include plateaus and mountains, such as the Drakensberg range. Southern Africa is the epicenter of Africa's well-known reserves, which protect animal species such as lions, elephants, baboons (Papio spp.), white rhinos (Ceratotherium simum), and Burchell's zebras (Equus quagga burchellii) among others. Southern Africa's Cape Floral Region is one of the richest areas for plants in the world. While the Cape Floral Region covers less than 0.5 percent of Africa, it is home to nearly 20 percent of the continent's flora...

SHOCKING DISCOVERY REVEALS THERE IS OCEAN UNDER THE EARTH

SHOCKING DISCOVERY REVEALS THERE IS OCEAN UNDER THE EARTH | PENGlobal

Did you know that scientists have discovered a reservoir of water three times the volume of all the oceans beneath the Earth's surface?

A reservoir of water three times the volume of all the oceans has been discovered deep beneath the Earth’s surface.

The finding could help explain where Earth’s seas came from.

The water is hidden inside a blue rock called ringwoodite that lies 700 kilometres underground in the mantle, the layer of hot rock between Earth’s surface and its core.

The huge size of the reservoir throws new light on the origin of Earth’s water.

Some geologists think water arrived in comets as they struck the planet, but the new discovery supports an alternative idea that the oceans gradually oozed out of the interior of the early Earth.

“It’s good evidence the Earth’s water came from within,” says Steven Jacobsen of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

The hidden water could also act as a buffer for the oceans on the surface, explaining why they have stayed the same size for millions of years.

Jacobsen’s team used 2000 seismometers to study the seismic waves generated by more than 500 earthquakes.

These waves move throughout Earth’s interior, including the core, and can be detected at the surface.

“They make the Earth ring like a bell for days afterwards,” says Jacobsen.

By measuring the speed of the waves at different depths, the team could figure out which types of rocks the waves were passing through.

The water layer revealed itself because the waves slowed down, as it takes them longer to get through soggy rock than dry rock.

Jacobsen worked out in advance what would happen to the waves if water-containing ringwoodite was present.

He grew ringwoodite in his lab, and exposed samples of it to massive pressures and temperatures matching those at 700 kilometres down.

Sure enough, they found signs of wet ringwoodite in the transition zone 700 kilometres down, which divides the upper and lower regions of the mantle. At that depth, the pressures and temperatures are just right to squeeze the water out of the ringwoodite.

“It’s rock with water along the boundaries between the grains, almost as if they’re sweating,” says Jacobsen.

Jacobsen’s finding supports a recent study by Graham Pearson of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

Pearson studied a diamond from the transition zone that had been carried to the surface in a volcano, and found that it contained water-bearing ringwoodite, the first strong evidence that there was lots of water in the transition zone.

“Since our initial report of hydrous ringwoodite, we’ve found another ringwoodite crystal, also containing water, so the evidence is now very strong,” says Pearson.

So far, Jacobsen only has evidence that the watery rock sits beneath the US.

He now wants to find out if it wraps around the entire planet.

“We should be grateful for this deep reservoir,” says Jacobsen.

“If it wasn’t there, it would be on the surface of the Earth, and mountain tops would be the only land poking out.”

FAKE EFCC OPERATIVE ARRESTED FOR DEFRAUDING BELGIAN €45,000

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a 29-year old Ume Ifechukwu Clinton for impersonation, computer related fraud, obtaining by false pretence and money laundering.

Clinton was arrested on October 18, 2022 at No 46 Atoke Gbadebo Street, Isheri, Lagos, by operatives of the EFCC, following a news story published by an online portal: foundation for investigative journalism narrating how Clinton defrauded Axelle Mahieu, an educator working as a caregiver in Brussels, Belgium.

The victim was surfing through her Facebook page in November 2021, when she saw that someone had sent her a message. The message was from Ume Ifechukwu Clinton, who introduced himself as “a friend of a friend”.
As they continued chatting in the following days, Clinton told Mahieu that he was an official of the EFCC, with a fake  Identity Card and  Nigerian Passport as proofs.

After several months of video calls and gaining Mathieu's trust, Clinton allegedly proposed a cryptocurrency business to her, assuring her of huge profit and secured capital.

POLARIS BANK SOLD FOR N50BN

POLARIS BANK SOLD FOR N50BILLION

New Owners to pay back CBN N1.3tr startup capital in 25 years

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) have formally announced the acquisition of Polaris Bank Limited.

CBN’s Director, Corporate Communications Department, Osita Nwanisobi, in a statement on behalf of CBN and AMCON, said Strategic Capital Investment Limited (SCIL) has paid N50 billion for the acquisition of 100 per cent equity of the bridge bank.

The statement noted that the new owners, SCIL, have accepted the terms of the agreement for the purchase.

The terms include the full repayment of N1.305 trillion, being the consideration bonds injected into the bank.

The statement read: “The CBN thus received an immediate return for the value it has created in Polaris Bank during the stabilisation period, as well as ensuring that all funds originally provided to support the intervention are recovered.

“The sale was coordinated by a Divestment Committee (the ‘Committee’) comprising representatives of the CBN and AMCON and advised by legal and financial consultants.

The Committee conducted a sale process by ‘private treaty’, as provided in Section 34(5) of the AMCON Act to avoid negative speculations, retain value and preserve financial system stability.

“In the process, parties who had formally expressed an interest in acquiring Polaris Bank, subsequent to the CBN intervention in 2018, were invited to submit financial and technical proposals.

Invitations to submit proposals were sent to 25 pre-qualified interested parties, out of which three parties eventually submitted final purchase proposals following technical evaluation.

“All submissions were subject to a rigorous transaction process from which SCIL emerged as the preferred bidder having presented the most comprehensive technical/financial purchase proposal as well as the highest rated growth plans for Polaris Bank.”

Speaking on the transaction, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, said that the sale of the bank “marks the completion of a landmark intervention in a strategic institution in the Nigerian banking sector by the CBN and AMCON.”

He commended the outgoing board and management for their vital role since the bridge bank was established; in stabilising the bank’s operations, and its balance sheet and implementing strong governance structures to address the issues that led to the intervention.

According to him, the process has provided the CBN with an unprecedented opportunity to recover its intervention funds in full and promote financial stability and inclusive growth.

He wished SCIL well as they implement growth plans to build the bank from the strong foundations that have been established.”

Polaris has been operating as a bridge bank since 2018 when the CBN revoked the licence of the former Skye Bank Plc and established Polaris Bank to assume its assets and certain liabilities.

So far, N898 billion had been injected into the bank to be repaid over a period of 25 years.

HOW OLIVER DE COQUE'S MOST KEPT SECRET TOOK HIM TO AN EARLY GRAVE AS TOLD BY HIS SON

How OLIVER DE COQUE's most kept secret took him to an early grave as told by his son.
(April 14, 1947 - June 20, 2008. Age: 61)

HIS NAME, HIS MUSIC & HIS LIFESTYLE

Chief Dr. Oliver Sunday Akanite popularly known as Oliver De Coque was a Nigerian highlife musician and guitarist who has more than 50 albums to his credit and whose career lasted over 4 decades, making him one of the most popular highlife kings in Africa.

Oliver and his music band group, 'Ogene Sound Super of Africa' blended modern highlife and traditional Igbo music.

The music star had 12 kids; 7 boys and 5 girls and they all enjoyed their father's presence. "It was awesome.

My siblings and I didn't see him as a famous person.

He was a normal, caring, jovial and loving dad to us," Darlington Akanite, one of his sons disclosed.
While growing up, Oliver was popularly called, 'The Game Master'  because he was good at the game of Draft.

Draft in Igbo language is 'Okwe.' So, People began to call him 'Oliver Di ka Okwe.'

He then changed the name to sound more like a French name; that was how he came up with, 'Oliver De Coque.'

HIS SIGNATURE LOOK

He loved to buy clothes and spent a lot of money maintaining his looks. Infact, he spent #30,000 on his beard weekly and that amounted to #120,000 monthly. He visited his Salon twice a week and always said his beard was his Signature look. He said that if someone decided to keep a beard, it was right to maintain it.

HIS SICKNESS & HOW HE DIED

He fell ill at the end of 2007. He was diabetic and hypertensive. Most artistes don't like to disclose their health challenge and his son is of the opinion that if Oliver had told people about his health challenge, he would have gotten help quickly.

"He was ill for three months. He then recovered in February 2008 and began to go for shows. He died on June 20 but he had planned to travel to the U.S on July 2 for checkup," Darlington added.

He went further to tell the press that it was as if his father knew he was going to die because on the day he died, he decided to stay indoors. "And he told me to stay by his side."

"That morning after he had his brekfast, he began to feel ill and cancelled his appointments for the day. I didn't know it was a serious matter; all I could do was to console him. I went to the bathroom to take a shower and then told him that I wanted to visit a few friends but he begged me not to leave his side and I became upset.

I thought he was just depriving me of having fun. I grudgingly stayed back."
While Darlington stayed with him, he began to tell him how he started his career.

As he was telling the story, he complained of not breathing well.

Oliver then decided that he should be taken to the hospital.

On their way to the hospital, he told the driver to increase the air-condition that he was feeling hot.

His son became scared when he started to shout, "Wheelbarrow! Wheelbarrow! Darlington, please bring a Wheelbarrow."

It was after his death, Darlington who wondered what was happening realised that the highlife maestro was referring to a WheelChair not actually a Wheelbarrow.

"I think he was becoming paralysed and unconscious. He was rushed to the emergency ward when we got to the hospital.

And throughout his time in the hospital, he kept begging me to save him but there was nothing I could have done," the Son said.
He held Darlington's hand close to his side as he took his last breathe. His son closed his eyes and kissed him on the forehead. "I was so confused about all that happened."

LESSON

His son believes that more than 200 Igbo people would have laid their lives down for him if he had made his health condition public.

He's gone leaving behind a vacuum but he's taught the entire family a lesson that whenever one is facing a challenge, one shouldn't keep quiet about it.
"I want people to learn from his death."

THIS IS MANCHESTER UNITED, AND UNITED WE MUST STAND, SOON WE’LL BE TOGETHER AGAIN - C - RONALDO

As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries and my coaches.

 That hasn’t changed. I haven’t changed.

I’m the same person and the same professional that I’ve been for the last 20 years playing elite football, and respect has always played a very important role in my decision making process.

I started very young, the older and most experienced players examples were always very important to me. Therefore, later on, I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters that grew in all the teams that I’ve represented.

Unfortunately that’s not always possible and sometimes the heat of the moment get’s the best of us.

Right now, I just feel that I have to keep working hard in Carrington, support my teammates and be ready for everything in any given game.

Giving in to the pressure is not an option. It never was. This is Manchester United, and united we must stand. Soon we’ll be together again.

$1M TO NIGERIANS IN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE FOR FLOOD VICTIMS - UNITED STATES

The United States has promised to provide $1

million in humanitarian assistance for people

affected by unprecedented flooding in Nigeria.

The aid is being provided by the U.S. Agency for

International Development (USAID), and the

agency says the $1 million will allow local

partners on the ground to provide emergency

shelter assistance, relief commodities, and

hygiene kits to promote safe and healthy

practices amid the ongoing cholera outbreak.

The U.S Consulate in Nigeria on Thursday,

October 20 said the unusually heavy rainfall is

regrettable with flooding affecting nearly 2.8

million people across the country, completely

damaging or displacing millions of people.

“We are filled with grief for the flood victims who have lost so much – livelihoods, homes, and even

loved ones,” said U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard.

“The United States continues to stand with the

people of Nigeria during this extremely difficult

time,” Ambassador Leonard added.

“Floods have exacerbated an already critical

humanitarian situation in Nigeria, where ongoing

conflict, especially in the northern region, has

driven millions of people from their homes. In the

same region, more than 4 million people are

projected to continue experiencing acute food

insecurity amid the worsening global food crisis.”

“We are also concerned that standing floodwaters

could increase the risk of cholera and other

waterborne diseases in Adamawa, Borno, and

Yobe states, where cholera outbreaks were

declared in August and September and at least

7,750 cases were recorded in 2022, 31 out of 36 states reported cholera cases.

“As experts expect heavy rainfall and flooding to

continue through November, due in part to climate

change and insufficient drainage infrastructure,

USAID disaster experts will continue monitoring

the situation in close coordination with

humanitarian partners and the Government of

Nigeria to assess needs and determine if additional assistance is required.

IMPORTANT QUALITIES FOR SUCCESS

Every single day, thousands of people come online in the hopes of building a ‘side hustle’ that will make them money and give them freedom to quit their dreary day jobs.

The thought of telling their boss to take a hike almost makes them smile as they imagine days by the beach with a laptop as they sip cool drinks.

This is the scenario that thousands of ‘online get rich quick’ schemes promise to give you.

However, reality is much more brutal. Most people who come online will not do anything other than waste their money buying into those get rich quick schemes that don’t work.

The road to affiliate marketing success is paved with virtual carcasses of the thousands who have tried and failed.

To succeed in any business will require several qualities. Here are two of the qualities most crucial to your affiliate marketing success.

1. Focus

When you’re first starting out with affiliate marketing, you’ll come across tons of sales pages bursting with loopholes, money hacks, business ideas and promises of quick money with 20 minutes of work or less.

Almost always, this is hyperbole. Making money online requires work and a lot of time. Don’t be swept away by the bold claims of fast riches and a luxurious lifestyle which awaits you. This is a death trap for your ambitions and the road to ruin in this business. What really matters is that other people are making money with it. If they can, you can.

It’s very easy to get distracted and lose your way. Your email inbox may be assaulted by countless offers. You may see ads being displayed on social media tempting you to buy some new viral app or traffic software.
None of that matters. Only focus on your business model and buy what you need to help you get better in your business.

2. Consistency

What you do everyday in your business matters more than what you do once in a while. It’s better to spend 30 minutes a day on your business rather than 2 hours on a weekend.
The action of working on your business daily will keep it at the forefront of your mind and will give you momentum.

By doing a little every single day, the small daily improvements will lead to staggering long-term results.
Remember these two points and apply them to your online business daily. They’re especially important when you’re starting out, and the foundations to long term success.

Stay safe and "Build Something Great!"

PERSISTENCE WINS EVERY TIME

Successful affiliate marketers see obstacles as opportunities to learn, not reasons to give up. They have learned the underlying secret of success ...persistence pays.

Persistence brings its own unique pay-off in the form of what I call the four R's - resources, realization, relationships and rewards.

1. Resources

If you persist with an affiliate program you get to understand the resources available to you and how best to use them for your program. Many affiliate programs today provide support for affiliate marketing in the form of solo ads, classified ads, banners, and text messages.

These resources are often backed up by forums, chat rooms,  and tutorials where you can learn how to make the best use of these resources for the affiliate program involved.

It is not possible in two or three months to get to effectively use all these resources or fully understand your affiliate program, the product and/or service offering and the dynamics of the relevant target market.

By not persisting with your affiliate program, you are missing learning opportunities and under utilizing the resources available to you.

2.Realization

Persistence brings increased realization through exposure to these affiliate resources, to successful affiliates and to the systems that support your affiliate program. You learn (over time) what marketing strategies are the most cost-effective for the product or service that you are marketing through your affiliate program.

You also come to fully appreciate your program's follow-up system, reporting system and commission structure. Persistence helps you understand better the features and benefits of your product/service offering, the real target market and how to sell to this market.

Persistence can bring the realization of how best to use your personal resources and skills for your affiliate program. It can also help you realize ways to achieve synergy between the various affiliate programs you are involved in.

3.Relationships

Persistence develops relationships over time, particularly if you are active in communicating with your sponsor, upline, downline and other affiliates through the affiliate program's forum and chatline.

Relationships, in turn, bring resources, support, encouragement and ideas to help you to improve your effectiveness and your affiliate income. You can access affiliate marketing coaching through these relationships.

If you do not persist, you cut yourself off from these relationship benefits.

4.Rewards

Persistence can bring a range of rewards. Loyalty to an affiliate program is often rewarded by a sponsor or program owner. Sometimes this takes the form of discounts, bonuses, extra credits or downline members. You may also benefit through the natural evolution of the program as it is refined, improved and upgraded. Long-standing members are frequently given first access to new offerings.

Persistence can result in your emerging as a program leader which in turn can lead to your receiving lucrative offers to act as a leader in another affiliate program.

These four R's - resources, realization, relationships and rewards - are interdependent. With persistence comes a form of synergy where the four R's reinforce each other and you receive an even greater benefit from the fact that they are actively working together to increase your affiliate income.

Persistence pays...it takes you to another level of development as an affiliate marketer, deepens your understanding of affiliate marketing, enriches your online experience and brings monetary rewards.

How often have you wondered, Where would I be now if I had only persisted with that other affiliate program?

Stay safe and "Build Something Great!"

LAGDO DAM IN CAMEROON CAUSING DEVASTATING FLOODING IN NIGERIA, OVER 300 DEAD

Lagdo damn, comunities in Benue, Adamawa, Taraba, Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, Nasarawa and other states have also been devastated by the flooding that has destroyed many homes and lives in Kogi state.

Lagdo Damn, located in Northern Cameroon the construction began  In 1977,    and was completed in 1982.

Initially, the Cameroonian and Nigerian Government's had agreed to build two dams so that when excess water is released from the Lagdo dam, it will be contained by the Nigerian dam which would be two and a half times bigger and won't result in flooding

However, the Nigerian Government agreed to construct the Dasin Hausa Dam in Adamawa State to lessen the impact of any potential flooding from the Lagdo dam in Cameroon.

But regrettably, the Dasin Hausa dam has not been completed since 1982 and this has led to the yearly flooding in Nigeria.
